EuRA Elections

New President and Vice President Announced

We are delighted to announce that at the last Council Meeting, Åse Löfgren Gunsten was chosen as the next EuRA President and Patrick Oman as Vice President.  This is because current president Helmut Berg and current Vice President Kathryn Andrews are both leaving the Council in June 2011.

There are two vacant seats on the Council and we are now seeking nominations for candidates.  More details of the election process are on the website.

    Spanish VAT

    The Facts for Palma

We know that the Spanish VAT situation is quite confusing!  EuRA's Spanish VAT number IS correct despite other agencies giving incorrect advice!  Delegates coming to Palma DO have to pay the VAT at 18% as detailed on the invoice.  Spain has presented us all with an anomaly.  Because the service delegates are receiving is being delivered in Spain (that service being the EuRA  conference), the VAT does have to be paid under current Spanish rules.  Check with your own VAT authority as to whether or not you can claim back the VAT.  If you have any questions, don't hesitate to contact Tad (tad@eura-relocation.com) or Briony (briony@eura-relocation.com)

    Disciplinary Issue

    Interdean Ruling Czech Republic

A complaint has been brought to the EuRA Council that a breach of EuRA’s rules of conduct was made by the Interdean office in the Czech Republic.  After an investigation, the EuRA Council agreed that a breach had indeed taken place and have suspended the listing of Interdean’s Czech office for two years.

    It's a Woman's World?

    Sue Bury

In 2002 a survey of the ERC membership found that 75% of its 10,000 members were women. Is this predominance of women in the relocation industry still the case today, and what lies behind the statistics? Is there a relationship between certain skill sets and gender - and what are the skills required to deliver a valuable and professional service in these demanding recessionary times? By looking at women in business in a more general sense, it may be possible to place our particular industry in a wider context.

    Priscila Montana, Cultural Awareness

Priscila Montana was only a child when she and her family left Buenos Aires and moved to the United States. But the awkwardness she felt at the time and her struggle to fit in are experiences that have never left her. Now, as founder and CEO of Cultural Awareness International Inc., Montana makes it easier for others who are making an international transition—and for companies entering new global markets. President's Letter

Dynexity - Partner or Enemy?  Helmut Berg

Two weeks ago I met with a person I’ve known for about 20 years and respect very much. We had not seen each other for quite a while. As elderly people do (!), we reminisced. And while doing so we remembered that we had some in depth discussions over two beers or more some 15 years ago about an expression that was new to us at the time but that held some appeal for us. We discussed the ins and outs of Dynexity.
