Families in Global Transition UK Chapter Launches in London A new force in global transition has been launched in the UK to provide support for globally mobile individuals and families. Families in Global Transition (FIGT) has been championing cross-cultural education and training to support the entire expat family for more than 10 years and is the premier advocate and cross-cultural educational resource for families, organisations and service providers. Anne Copeland of The Interchange Institute (Brookline, MA, USA) has put together a research study on this issue and is seeking more participants. The survey is open to anyone who has lived outside their passport country for 3+ months. A recent global mobility survey of over 1000 companies found that 90% anticipated a growth in the number of people they would be moving around the globe in the next two years. As domestic markets in the US and Europe continue to see slow growth, so companies are seeing the need to seek new markets outside their national borders. Over the past five years previously domestically focussed U.S. companies have made serious entries into the European markets and this looks set to continue. The U.S. is the world’s largest overseas investor. A recent study by the United Nations indicates that U.S. firms are the largest foreign direct investors in the world and own as much abroad as the British and Germans combined, the next largest foreign direct investors.
