Coaching Connections

A Revolutionary Programe
This revolutionary training programme has been developed jointly by EuRA working with the International Centre for Coaching and Leadership Development at Oxford Brookes University. This is a new approach to training, focussing on the impact of using coaching skills when working with expats and transferees. Combining core coaching and psychological competences with cultural understanding, we are able to deliver a programme that will be relevant for professionals operating in all areas of relocation. The programme is a joint development between EuRA and OBU and we have brought our respective skills together to deliver a globally relevant and highly cost effective programme.
Distance Learning
This is a truly global programme, available online, for you to work on when it suits you. Each module will be online for one month and will take between 4 and 6 hours to complete. The entire programme is built on a “Shared Learning” philosophy, linking delegates to each other in order to get the most from shared professional experience.
Web Based
Each module will be delivered on a web platform linking intellectual content, instructions for completing the module with chat rooms and message boards. Online assistance will be available from the faculty staff of the Business School of Oxford Brookes University. Participation in the online shared areas will greatly enhance the learning experience and tie the intellectual content back to your own experiences of working in the relocation industry.  All you need to access the system is a Broadband/ADSL internet connection.
Modular
In total the “Coaching Connections” course covers 12 Modules, divided into 4 Programmes of 3 Modules each. Each Programme of 3 Modules will be online twice during a year. Each Module will be online to be completed within one month. Programme 1 consists of 3 Modules which will be online during November, December and January, and then repeated in January, February and March.
Interactive Workshops
At both the EuRA International Relocation Congress and at strategic sites throughout Europe, we will host workshop days to reinforce the skills that delegates will learn online. These events will be a great opportunity to exchange ideas with other relocation professionals also undertaking the programme and also to meet with the lecturers and staff of the Business School of Oxford Brookes Univaersity. These days will incur an extra cost, but are not obligatory.
A Professional Programme
Delegates will receive a Certificate of Attendance for each Programme completed from the International Centre for Coaching and Leadership Development of Oxford Brookes University and a Certificate in Cross Cultural Coaching from EuRA on completion of all four Programmes.

Programme A

Module 1 - Introduction to Coaching and the GROW Model

Within the relocation industry we are facing continued pressure on pricing and need to work hard to maintain profit margins while delivering a professional service. One way to enhance service levels and ensure the most efficient use of our resources is to widen our skill - offering, and to create added value for customers.  In this module we will introduce the concept of coaching and consider how coaching skills can be applied in the cross-cultural relocation context. We will present the GROW model and discuss how it can be used to facilitate customer interactions. The aim is to introduce and apply coaching skills to help deliver a visible more professional, efficient and effective service to our customers creating added value.

Module 2 - Coaching Skills Part One

The relocation business relies on our exceptional communication skills, working across cultures, with customers, suppliers and other business contacts. Our success often depends on our ability to build rapport and to get our message across in often challenging and difficult circumstances. Any tools and techniques that can enhance our communication effectiveness are therefore valuable to maintaining and building business. This module starts to focus on the key skills of coaching, questioning and listening. Effective questioning can be a powerful influencing technique and useful in both customer and selling interactions. The ability to listen is often underestimated in rapport building and in enhancing your ability to get your message across. The aim of this module is to give you control over interactions to ensure we build effective working relationships with others.

Module 3 - Transactional Analysis Ego States

Within the relocation industry we meet a variety of people and often work with challenging personalities irrespective of their culture or nationality. Building our understanding of people can help us create a more effective service and meet each customer’s needs. This module introduces the Transactional Analysis Ego States model which can be used to understand and manage interactions. This psychological approach can help you assess and manage challenging interactions to support enhanced customer service. The aim of this module is to increase our understanding of individual behaviour and to develop strategies that can support a successful outcome.

Programme B

Module 4 - Roles and Responsibilities

In our industry, we are driven by our knowledge of how much it takes to help the transferees settle. In some cases, the amount of work we are paid to do versus the amount of work we know they need, are very different things. How do we reconcile what we know they may need, but we are not paid to deliver? In this module, the focus is on building trust while establishing boundaries that enable effective working. The use of coaching skills can assist us in realising when we are going beyond our obligations to our clients.

Module 5 - Giving Feedback and Challenging Supportively

When giving feedback, there are good strategies and great strategies! This module will look at how feedback is best given in order to help our clients realise their goals. Understanding what that feedback means can often lead to disputes, but in this module, we will look at how we can take that potentially difficult situation and learn skills to supportively challenge our clients. When relocating someone to our city, we will have a far greater knowledge base than the transferee and this module will help us to clarify the clients needs, while using appropriate techniques to challenge what we may see as bad decisions!

Module 6 - Learning Styles

We learn according to a cycle;
Concrete Experience
Reflection
Abstract Conceptualisation
Testing

For example:A child touches a hot cooker top—this is a concrete experience. On reflection, the child realises that touching the hot cooker top caused pain. This leads to the abstract concept that all cooker tops may be hot, so next time the child will test this theory by holding their hand close to, but not touching the cooker top! However, many of us focus more in one area than another. Some of us are experience driven, some of us are more reflective. Knowing where we are strongest in this cycle helps us to identify where we can sometimes learn more! Conversely, being able to identify where our clients are strongest in this cycle helps us to work effectively with them.
