Our sixth annual Members' Day will take place in Lille on Friday November 28th.

Intercultural Leadership
Dr Kate Gilbert

Culture, or rather the cultures of ‘other’ countries used to be seen as a problem that had to be fathomed, understood, and ultimately ‘dealt with’ through cross-cultural training and the ‘sink or swim’ approach. No wonder up to 40% of overseas assignments for US companies fail, with the assignee and his or her family returning early. In Europe we take pride in our cultural sophistication and appreciation of diversity, but here too, cross-cultural assignments often falter and even fail, and the reasons given are that the cultural differences were just too great for the assignee to adapt. But culture isn’t a problem to be eliminated – it is a source of richness, inspiration and energy, and the medium through which we solve our problems. The relocation industry is uniquely placed to support not only executives and professionals on international assignments, but also their corporate organizations, to adapt to the new realities of global business. This seminar will explore this new approach to culture in a participative way, and introduce participants to useful practical tools to use on an everyday basis.

The Financial Situation - An Analysis
Sally Goodsell, CEO Finance South

As well as our education session on Intrcultural Leadership we have also invited Sally Goodsell, CEO of Finance South, a UK government venture capital body for small company start ups. Sally worked as a stockmarket trader for many years before becoming a venture capitalist herself. Sally will look at how the current banking situation came about and how best we can all go forward to protect our business interests. We will follow her session with an open round table discussion on the impact that the current situation is having on our industry. This will be an extremely relevant and important session.
