Act on Dutch citizenship: Naturalisation term remains 5 years

On 3 October 2017 the Dutch Senate rejected the bill extending the naturalisation term from 5 to 7 years.

As a result, a non-Dutch national, can still apply for a Dutch passport after an uninterrupted period of 5 years legal residence in the Netherlands.

Increased work permit quotas for Switzerland: 500 additional work permits in 2018.

This means at total of 8000 new work permit on a national basis, split between 3500 B permits (long term) and 4500 L permits (short term). This was adopted by the Federal Authorities on Friday 29th September 2017.

These additional 500 work permits will be affected to the federal "reserve" which should give more flexibility to respond to specific cantonal needs (e.g. Geneva, Zurich, Basel, Bern, Vaud).
