2018 Preview on Swiss Work Permit quotas

2018 PREVIEW ON SWISS WORK PERMIT QUOTAS

Increased work permit quotas for Switzerland: 500 additional work permits in 2018.

This means at total of 8000 new work permit on a national basis, split between 3500 B permits (long term) and 4500 L permits (short term). This was adopted by the Federal Authorities on Friday 29th September 2017.

These additional 500 work permits will be affected to the federal "reserve" which should give more flexibility to respond to specific cantonal needs (e.g. Geneva, Zurich, Basel, Bern, Vaud).

Interestingly, Geneva, Zurich and Basel have recently requested a return to the 2014 contingency (8500) as their respective quotas had been used early in the year, a situation that had never been encoutered to-date.

Switzerland remains a very attractive destination to set-up business, not only in respect to the flexible tax rulings that can be negotiated, but also due to the availability of qualified and multi-lingual staff resources, geographical positioning, simple and flexible labor law rules.

The GR Mobility Swiss Relocation Group is presently handling the set-up of chinese, Israeli and EU companies in Switzerland. We bring together a wealth of knowledge in terms of relocation , immigration, financial services (e.g. accounting and expense management) and legal set-up.
